It’s no secret that I’m absolutely addicted to music and that the music I consume really shapes the sound of my own music. And well, I’ve been falling down some serious rabbit holes lately, so here’s a little insight into what has been inspiring me, keeping me awake, and slowly draining my bank account.

Olivia Rodrigo

I’ve been listening to a lot of Olivia Rodrigo’s new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, and in particular, the song the cure. The whole record is bit of a different sound from her previous stuff, but it’s still unmistakably Olivia (and really good). I’ve only given it a few listens all the way through so far, but I’m a big fan. Easily has the potential to be her best work yet.

Ryan Beatty

If you know me, you know Ryan Beatty’s last album, Calico, is one of my absolute favourite records of the past few years. He just dropped a new song called Secret Language and it’s so good. The full album comes out this Friday (June 26th), and seeing that it looks like he’s working with the same producer, Ethan Gruska, I’m pretty excited to listen to the whole thing.

Phoebe Bridgers

Speaking of Ethan... It looks like Phoebe Bridgers is also gonna be releasing an album somewhat soon... which should be incredibly foreboding news for anyone who absolutely hates themselves. (Myself included, obviously).

The 1975

Bit of a random one but I’ve found myself slipping into a major The 1975 phase recently. Specifically, I’ve had their 2022 album Being Funny in a Foreign Language on absolute repeat. There’s just something about the production on that record that hits perfectly every time (Jack Antonoff genius).

Chuck, Lizzy, and the Dream Team

Shoutout to Chuck Timely (aka ROLE MODEL, aka Tucker Pillsbury). I am really liking the sound of what’s coming from his upcoming album, based off the first single at least. Then again, you can’t exactly go wrong with Mason Stoops and Taylor Mackall at the wheel! You could say I’ve got “Some High Hopes” for this record (ok I’ll shut up now)…

Speaking of those two, word on the street is that Lizzy McAlpine is returning soon(ish)! I’m about to become insufferable to be around if that rumour’s true. She was my top Spotify artist last year by a long way… clocking in at exactly 10,000 minutes listened.

I honestly can’t speak highly enough of Lizzy and everything she’s done over the past 5 or 6 years. I can’t wait to hear what a Lizzy album sounds like in 2026. If I had to guess, I’d say it’ll be even more folky than her previous stuff, with even more focus on the lyrics and depth of songwriting. But what do I know? I could be completely wrong, we’ll just have to wait and see.

John Mayer

Of course I can’t go without mentioning John Mayer. Although we haven’t had new music from the man in a looong time, his huge discography keeps me going all year round basically. Very few skips in my opinion across everything he’s released so far. I know he’s been dipping in and out of the studio over the past few years, so really hope we get something from him soon..

The Live Music Calendar (RIP My Wallet)

Outside of the office and studio, I’m planning on getting out to a few concerts this year. I currently have tickets for Ryan Beatty, The Script, and Phoebe Bridgers. But looking at the release calendars and circulating rumours of who else might tour... there could be a few more added to the calendar very soon. My bank account is literally crying in the corner right now as I type this.

It’s been a minute, hasn’t it? If you’ve been wondering why things have been a bit quiet on my end this year, I figure it’s time for a quick catch-up.

Long story short: I’m ACTUALLY employed now (wooo?)!

I’ve recently moved back to Galway and started a new job as an engineer, finally putting the Master’s to some kinda use.

Having that solid routine and structure in my life is exactly what I needed, and being back around so many of my friends again makes the terrible weather we’ve had over here this year slightly more bearable (although apparently we’re getting some decent weather soon 🥳).

Some Crazy News: 100k Streams

While I’ve been busy adjusting to the employed lifestyle, people have continued listening to my music for some reason. It’s been nearly 8 months since I released ‘No Damage To My Heart’, so to see that I still have a solid 4-5k monthly listeners is crazy to me.

• Also, somehow NDTMH is currently sitting at nearly 100k streams on Spotify alone...

• And across all streaming services, it has already cleared that 100k milestone. Like what???

Honestly, that is WILD to me. When I started out two and a half years ago, these are the kinds of numbers I never really expected to see. Thank you all so much for listening and sharing it. It means the world.

So… What’s Next??

You might think a full-time engineering job leaves no room for music, but it’s actually had the opposite effect. I’ve never been as motivated and excited to share what I’ve been working on.

Strangely enough, having limited free time makes me focus on spending what time I do have for music much more effectively. I think as well, keeping music as a hobby right now allows it to stay fresh, exciting, and stops me from getting burned out as easily.

So yeah, I’ve still been writing and recording in the meantime (probably more than ever before).

There might be a lot of music on the way sooner than you think. Just keep your eyes peeled (I might leak some here…).

What to Expect Next (And a Question for You)

I’m going to try to be a lot more active on here in the coming weeks and months. This place is gonna be the first place to hear about:
